Ministry conducts joint op with MPOB in Sandakan

SANDAKAN: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) and the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) have collaborated to prevent and combat the misuse of controlled commodities, particularly subsidised cooking oil, here.
KPDN Sandakan branch Chief Enforcement Officer Azdy Zukkry John said the integrated operation searched a warehouse suspected of storing palm oil without a valid MPOB licence.

During the raid, there were no workers in the premises.
Azdy said an inspection revealed three empty palm oil tankers, 13 empty intermediate bulk containers, two empty skid tanks and one empty diesel tanker.
“Further monitoring will be conducted on the premises,” he said.
The operation also included inspections of a subsidised cooking oil repackaging facility in Sibuga.

The Control of Supplies Act 1961 inspection included documentation checks on stock books, transactions and the distribution of the factory’s subsidised cooking oil.
Inspections revealed that the factory conformed to the law.

Under the Control of Supplies Act 1961 (Act 122), anyone convicted of an infringement can be fined up to RM1 million or imprisoned for up to three years, or both.
The fine for a second or subsequent offence cannot exceed RM3 million or imprisonment for no more than five years, or both.
Companies that are convicted may face a punishment of up to RM2 million, while repeat offences may not exceed RM5 million.
Azdy said the Sandakan KPDN branch would continue to conduct inspections, particularly on subsidised items like as flour, cooking oil, petrol, diesel and liquefied petroleum gas.
