Six-year-old joins Qatari youth club

Ahmad Qiyyam said his dream is to see his son play for the Harimau Malaya team one day.
Kota Kinabalu: Ahmad Qiyyam Darwish Ahmad Syukri has been signed up by Al-Arabi Sports Club (youth club) in Qatar late last year.
The six-year-old, whose mother is a Sabahan and father a Johorean, used to play for the Tabs Bandaraya team here early last year.

His father, who now resides in Qatar with the family, hopes his son will continue to develop as a player with the opportunity given by the Doha-based club.
He said his dream is to see his son play for the Harimau Malaya team one day.
“As a father, I have plans and also the confidence to see Darwish shine and wear the Harimau Malaya jersey in the future,” he said.
He added that they will be among all the Malaysians in Qatar giving support to the national football team who are involved in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Asian Cup Finals in Doha starting today (Friday).

Harimau Malaya will open their Group A campaign against Jordan on Jan 15 followed by Bahrain on Jan 20 and South Korea on Jan 25.
Meanwhile, Tabs Safa Bandaraya deputy chairman Lokman Sunggim, who congratulated Darwish for joining the club, said they had expected the boy to go far during his stint here.

“His extraordinary skills and agility playing for us on the wing had always impressed us.
“We had informed his father to continue to develop his son and we are glad that his talent is spotted by a top club,” he said.
