Kuala Lumpur: Budget 2021 should focus on efforts to provide better and cheaper Internet connectivity due to its increased usage among the people in the country.
Malaysian Animation Society President Amir Hamzah Hashim said in view of the current Covid-19 situation many of us are required to adapt to the new work culture and perform more work online.
“For instance, in the animation field itself, when the Movement Control Order (MCO) was enforced, we were required to work from home for longer hours and perform our work online.
“As such, if the Internet speed can be improved with lower fee imposed, it can help ease operating costs of a company,” he said, expressing the animation industry’s hope for the 2021 Budget, to be tabled in Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday.
Amir Hamzah also proposed to the government to create more local animation slots for local television channels to help animation businesses’ survival and sustainability.
“More job opportunities would be created, especially for new graduates, if local animation products are given more air times,” he said adding that a special incentive in the form of tax deduction should also be provided to encourage broadcasting stations buy our animation products.
Malaysian Internet Entrepreneur Association (MIEA) president Mohd Azrul Mohd Nor urged the government to enhance the digital government functions by prioritising entrepreneurship.
He said this would indirectly expedite business operation digital transformation especially for small and medium enterprises (SMEs). “We hope it can help ease the burden of SMEs and entrepreneurs affected by Covid-19 as the digital platform is seen as a necessity now,” he said, while calling out for more courses, trainings and programmes on business digitalisation for SMEs and entrepreneurs be provided by the government.
He also hoped the digitalisation of SMEs would not only involve sales and marketing, but also a company’s management, governance, as well as services provided.
