Kota Kinabalu: Sabah were unable to narrow the gap at the top as they had to battle from a goal down to draw 1-1 with league leaders Felda United in the Premier League top of table clash at the Likas Stadium on Saturday night. It was jittery start for Sabah with skipper Rawilson Batuil making a rare error in the box allowing Wan Zack Haikal to intercept and slotted in the opener in the ninth minutes.

The home side were unable to mount any serious threats to the visitors half with their 3-5-2 formation until they revert to 4-4-2 following the introduction of Randy Baruh for the injured Korean import Heo Jaenyong.

Sabah played much better after the change and there were some good attacking moves but they were still unable to find the target until Lee Gil-hoon came to Sabah's rescue when he won a penalty in the 33rd minutes with a clever run into the box that resulted in a foul from a Felda United player.

Fellow import Hector Ramos then stepped up and blasted home the spot kick giving Felda United keeper no chances at all.

Sabah created more chances in the second half that fell to Hector in several occasions, but he was unable to find the target with his head.

Both keepers also made good saves at both ends and the score line remained until the final whistle.

The draw was the first for Felda United and fourth for Sabah. Both teams remained unbeaten since the start of the season.

The one point saw Sabah dropped one place to third with 13 points, one point behind Sarawak in second while Felda United still at the top with 19 points.

Sabah next match is against UKM away on April 24.

Meanwhile, Sabah under-19 squad will take on PKNS FC at the group A Youth Cup match at the PKNS Sports Complex Sunday. Team manager Azman Mastar said before the team departure on Saturday that they are targeting three points from the match.

"All the players are in good shape and our target is to win the three points to strengthen our position in the league.

"I hope the players will give their beat and will not make any unnecessary mistake during the match." - GL Oh
