Kota Kinabalu: The State Government will continue to advance sports through various community sports programmes and high-performance sports to be organised to ensure that sports become a culture among all sections of the community in Sabah.

Head of State Tun Juhar Mahiruddin said this year, more sports activities will be implemented through the AKTIF Programme (Budaya Sukan Teras Aspirasi Famili Sihat) to encourage the community to adopt a healthy lifestyle.

In addition, he said the Under-12 Football Development Programme and Under-12 Borneo Island Games will also be implemented to unearth new talents in Under-12 sports.

“Focus will also continue to be given to improving infrastructure and providing sports facilities.

Among the projects that will continue this year are the Kota Marudu Sports Complex Construction Project and the Tongod Sports Complex Construction Project.

“The State Government is also actively promoting sports facilities throughout Sabah by targeting two million users of sports facilities this year.

“Through these efforts, the State Government hopes to foster a healthy community culture through sports and unearth more high-performing new athlete talents for the advancement of Sabah sports,” he said while delivering the government’s policy speech when opening the fifth term of the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) here Thursday.
