Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Youth, Sports and Creative Economy Minister Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan distributed 500 packs of Moroccan tomato soup, harira, to health workers and visitors at Queen Elizabeth Hospital on Thursday.
Nizam said the initiative was organised by the Ministry to show appreciation to healthcare workers who continue serving patients around the clock.
“We hope this programme will bring some cheer to them and at least ease their burden, as they do not have to buy food for iftar because we have prepared it for them.
“Our health workers continue serving patients without stopping, whether it is Ramadan or not. We truly appreciate their commitment in providing the best service to those seeking treatment here,” he said.
Meanwhile, Datuk Dr. Abd Kahar Abd Asis, director of Queen Elizabeth Hospital I, expressed appreciation to the ministry for the visit and contribution.
According to him, the hospital receives more than 2,000 outpatients daily and around 700 inpatients, bringing the total number of patients to nearly 3,000 a day, excluding visitors.
The hospital currently has about 4,000 staff working in three shifts, with between 1,000 and 1,500 personnel on duty during each shift.
Abd Kahar said that among the 24 hospitals in Sabah, Queen Elizabeth Hospital I is the largest facility and is facing increasing demand for services.
He added that additional buildings and wards are needed to accommodate the growing number of patients, while the existing parking capacity of about 1,500 spaces is still insufficient.
