WE CAN commonly divide people into six personality types according to Dr John Holland. They are the Realistic (Doers), Investigative (Thinkers), Artistic (Creators), Social (Helpers), Enterprising (Motivators) and Conventional (Organisers). At the same time we can also divide work environment into six types.

Each personality type will seek a matching work environment. The Realistic type will look for a Realistic environment.  

Similarly an Artistic type will search for an artistic environment. If they settle in a matching environment, they will be contented, happy and will be more productive in their chosen career. 

In this digital or AI – era, conventional jobs have been redefined. For instance a teacher in the future will have to be a content developer and able to teach on-line using a variety of apps. Most jobs don’t fade away but they will be redefined to meet the digital and AI – era. 

The students and school-leavers of today need to understand the future jobs. To help you understand let us look at Realistic (Doers) jobs in the digital AI - era. 

When we talk about Artificial Intelligence (AI), many students immediately think of robots, coding, hacking, or high-level computer science. 

But the truth is this: AI is no longer just for the “tech people.” It is already transforming everyday jobs — the jobs that many school-leavers are actually most interested in: technician work, repairs, hands-on mechanical jobs, outdoor tasks, and practical trades.

These are what career experts call “Realistic Careers” under Holland’s RIASEC model — careers that involve using tools, machines, physical activity, repairing, building and operating equipment. 

And in today’s world, these jobs are NOT disappearing. In fact, they are becoming smarter, safer, and more in demand because of AI.

If you love fixing things, prefer working with your hands, enjoy machines, or prefer outdoor work instead of office life — then this is YOUR category.
