Drugs: Two Sarawakian brothers claim trial
Each charge under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 carries a punishment of either the death penalty or life in prison and whipping with a minimum of 15 strokes.
Kota Kinabalu: Two Sarawakian brothers claimed trial in the High Court here with two counts of drug trafficking.

Unemployed Chin Jin Kim, 23, and runner Chin Jin Yu, 30, were brought before Judicial Commissioner Datuk Faridz Gohim Abdullah on Monday for allegedly trafficking 1,582.82gm of Ketamin at 7.40pm on Sept 26, 2023 in a unit at Block E of Phase 5, Beverly Hills, Penampang.

On the second count, the duo allegedly trafficked 2,713.5gm of syabu also at the same place and time.

Each charge under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 carries a punishment of either the death penalty or life in prison and whipping with a minimum of 15 strokes.

The charges were read to them in Mandarin.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Afiq Agoes prosecuting, applied for a new date for pre-trial case management (PTCM) and offered no bail to both accused.

Faridz set April 30 for PTCM and ordered the accused to be further remanded.

The brothers were represented by counsel Hairul V. Othman.

Meanwhile, in the Magistrate’s Court, a 22-year-old Filipino was fined RM1,000 or a month’s jail for engaging in an online gambling session.

Norman Nasilin, an IMM 13 holder pleaded guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to committing the offence at 2.30pm on Feb 6, at a shop, Jalan Kuala Laut, Kg Likas here.

The police inspected Norman’s mobile phone and found a ‘minion pro’ gambling application on the gadget.

The handphone and RM19 were seized from Norman, said the prosecution.

Norman was charged under Section 7(2) of the Common Gaming House Act which provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to six months jail or both, on conviction.
