MACC confirms ex-Astro CEO returned US$10mil worth of 1MDB-linked assets

Former Astro CEO Rohana Rozhan was previously questioned by the MACC following a disclosure that she was given a US$10 million house in London by a banker involved with 1MDB.
PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has confirmed that former Astro CEO Rohana Rozhan has returned US$10 million worth of assets linked to 1MDB to the authorities.
In a statement, MACC chief Azam Baki revealed that all the assets were returned to the government last year after the anti-graft agency concluded its investigations.

Yesterday, law and institutional reform minister Azalina Othman Said revealed, in a written parliamentary reply, that the Attorney-General’s Chambers had “no knowledge” whether Rohana had returned the funds.
She was responding to Lim Lip Eng (PH-Kepong) who asked if Rohana had returned the funds. He also asked how many 1MDB-related assets had been returned.
There have been reports that Rohana was allegedly in a 10-year-relationship with former Goldman Sachs banker Tim Leissner.
Leissner had testified in the US trial of another former Goldman Sachs banker, Roger Ng, that he bought Rohana a US$10 million house in London after she threatened to expose his involvement in 1MDB.

The house was allegedly bought using 1MDB money in 2013.
Leissner’s testimony prompted MACC to take statements from Rohana in February 2022 after she expressed her readiness to assist the authorities in their investigation.

The MACC also reportedly froze Rohana’s assets and bank accounts following its investigation into the ownership of the house.
