Kota Kinabalu: Norway’s Ambassador to Malaysia, Marianne Fosland, said Sabah and Norway hold significant potential to deepen cooperation across the maritime, energy and fisheries sectors following a two-day working visit to the state.
Fosland made the remarks to reporters after a courtesy call on Head of State Tun Musa Aman at Istana Seri Kinabalu, here, on Tuesday.
“Norway has extensive expertise in the modern fishing industry as well as renewable energy development, which we believe can add real value to Sabah’s economic growth,” she said.
She also expressed admiration for the state’s natural environment, saying she is impressed by Sabah’s green energy prospects after attending the Green Energy Summit. “Sabah has tremendous potential in the green energy sector,” Fosland said, adding that there were several areas worth exploring more deeply at the next stage of engagement.
The courtesy call also served as a formal introduction following Fosland’s appointment as Norway’s new Ambassador to Malaysia, replacing her predecessor Gunn Jorid Roset.
She said the two-day working visit to Sabah had opened a window to promote the state’s investment potential to Norwegian companies and investors looking to explore new business opportunities in the region.
