Kota Kinabalu: A Forensic Psychiatry Consultant Specialist told the Coroner’s Court that a diary belonging to Zara Qairina Mahathir served as a safe space for her to express her true emotions.
Dr Chua Sze Hung, 43, told Coroner Amir Shah Amir Hassan that the diary contained Zara’s honest and genuine expressions during her teenage years.
He said the diary reflected the deceased’s actual emotional and psychological state personally and without censorship, free from psychological, social and interpersonal pressure or judgment.
Chua said the diary also served as an objective record of the deceased and had become highly valuable documentary evidence as well as a personal artefact.
During the proceedings, the witness was also given three witness statements from Zara’s uncle Abu Bakar Lamat, her aunt Nur Shira Abdullah and another family member regarding their interactions and views on the relationship between Zara and her mother, Noraidah Lamat.
