Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Government is refining several major healthcare reforms, including proposed amendments to the Public Health Ordinance, the adoption of the Registration of Pharmacists Act 1951 and the establishment of a state health advisory council to strengthen healthcare governance and autonomy in Sabah.
The matters were discussed during a Health Workshop organised by the Ministry of Women, Health and People’s Wellbeing Sabah (KWKKR), involving government agencies, professional bodies, non-governmental organisations and healthcare stakeholders at The Magellan Sutera Harbour on Wednesday.
KWKKR Minister Datuk Julita Majungki (

She said the team government approach should form the basis of efforts to strengthen Sabah’s healthcare system without undermining the roles of existing agencies, while views gathered during the workshop would be refined before being presented to policymakers and relevant committees.
Julita said Sabah also needed to strengthen aspects of public health legislation involving fluoridation and sewerage management, adding that several proposals related to the Public Health Ordinance are expected to be discussed further with ministries and MA63 technical committees before being finalised.
