Kota Kinabalu: A fabricated TikTok wedding invitation naming Kapayan Assemblyman Chin Tek Ming and former Warisan’s Bengkoka candidate Fauziah Fuad Stephens as a couple has prompted a police report.
The fake post claimed the pair were set to marry at the Sacred Heart Cathedral on May 23.
The duo, in a joint statement Wednesday, said the post is malicious, defamatory and an affront to religious sensitivities.
The fake invitation, which went viral on social media, purported to invite members of the public to a wedding ceremony. Both have categorically denied any such event.
The post also touched on religious sensitivities. Fauziah is a Muslim and depicting her in a church wedding was seen as disrespectful in Malaysia’s multi-religious society.
“The fabrication is not only absurd and illogical on its face, but also deeply offensive from a religious perspective,” they said.

Chin and Fauziah called on the police to conduct a thorough investigation into potential offences, including criminal defamation and misuse of network facilities.
They have also urged the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to investigate the TikTok account responsible, identify the individual or individuals behind it and take appropriate enforcement action.
