Kota Kinabalu: The Coroner’s Court heard that Noraidah Lamat, the mother of the late Zara Qairina Mahathir, was seen in deep distress at the hospital as she continuously cried and prayed for her daughter to regain consciousness and speak normally again.
Abu Bakar Lamat, Noraidah’s elder brother and the 72nd deponent, told the court that his sister was unable to accept Zara’s condition at the time and appeared overwhelmed and deeply affected during their stay at the medical facility.
In his witness statement on Wednesday, Abu Bakar said he observed Noraidah in a state of trauma and grief and struggling to come to terms with Zara’s sudden passing.
Responding to questions from counsel Shahlan Jufri, Abu Bakar said he has three siblings, including Noraidah and another brother.
He also described Noraidah as a responsible sibling who was supportive of family members and often assisted with financial and educational matters while regularly checking on the wellbeing of relatives and their children.
