KOTA KINABALU: Seven audio recordings played in court during the inquest into Zara Qairina Mahathir’s case highlighted a close and affectionate relationship between her and her mother, with frequent expressions of love at the end of their calls.
The recordings, dated between March and July 2025, captured Zara sharing her feelings about hostel life, including daily matters and a theft complaint.
Investigators submitted 42 audio files from the mother’s phone, 35 of which involved conversations with Zara.
A forensic analyst confirmed the recordings were genuine, though only WhatsApp audio files could be extracted, with no voice call recordings retrievable.
The inquest continues with testimony from a relative of Zara’s mother.
