Kota Kinabalu: The first ever Lion Dance Coach and Referee Training and Assessment Course conducted in National language was held at RAIA Hotel, here, on May 1-2.
The programme, organised by the Malaysian Lion Dance Sports Federation, was led by its President Leong Lik Thong, who is also the World Lion Dance Federation (WLDF) President, together with Secretary General and national language speaker Fong Kong Yip.

Also present were Malaysian Lion and Dragon Dance Federation Secretary General Ching Xiao Fong and Macson Enrico from the Fatt Chun Sabah Lion Dance Association, who was also the co-organiser.
Leong said the programme, with all the participants passing their tests, marked a significant milestone in their efforts to promote lion dance sports and also serves as a foundation to ensure the art thrives for future generations.
He was also confident that the groundbreaking achievement would not only resonate within the community but also extend its influence and popularity on an international scale.
Macson Enrico on the other hand expressed his appreciation that Sabah was chosen for the programme.
He said Sabah, with a unique multi-racial community actively involved in lion dance, the programme, is poised to enhance skills and elevate the art form here even further.
Meanwhile, the closing ceremony officiated by Tanjung Aru Assemblyman Datuk Junz Wong Hong Jun was also attended by Api-Api Assemblyman Loi Kok Liang and Liew Sai Tet from Negeri Sembilan.
