PENAMPANG: Police are investigating a case involving a 16-year-old girl who was found unconscious and covered in blood in a toilet at Kampung Tuntuluk here on Thursday.

District police chief Supt Sammy Newton said the non-citizen victim was discovered at about midday with injuries to her neck and is receiving treatment at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kota Kinabalu.

He said police are tracking down a male suspect believed to be in his 30s to assist in investigations into the case.

Sammy said the case remains under investigation and those with information have been urged to contact ASP Hairie Awang Akub of the Penampang District Police Headquarters Criminal Investigation Division at 016-8032849.

He also advised the public against spreading false information or speculation that could disrupt public order and affect police investigations.
