BEIJING: A 24-year-old cancer patient’s request for companionship through a food delivery app has sparked a wave of kindness in Guangdong.
Xiao Li, who is undergoing treatment for a rare form of blood cancer, is often alone in hospital as her family works to fund her care,
China Central Television reported on April 25.

On April 15, she placed an unusual order asking for someone to sit by her bedside and accompany her for two hours.
A delivery rider accepted the request and visited her with fruit and flowers before sharing the experience with a local rider group.
The gesture inspired other riders to visit with fruit and milk, with some adjusting their working hours to spend time with her.
One rider, identified only as Chen, said he empathised with her as she had no family by her side, while her story later drew visits from a police officer and a cancer survivor, according to the South China Morning Post.
“I received a lot of encouragement from many people and am very thankful for their companionship,” Xiao Li said.
