Kota Kinabalu: The special grant to Sabah may be increased depending on the country’s economic situation amid the current global crisis.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak) Datuk Mustapha Sakmud said he was aware that the issue was widely raised during the Sabah State Legislative Assembly sitting last week.
He said the matter had been discussed with the Prime Minister, who also brought it to the Cabinet meeting last week for consideration before a decision is made on next year’s budget.
Mustapha said the Government hoped the country could overcome the current economic crisis, which would allow the special grant to be increased, while also taking into account the country’s economic situation and current fiscal position.
He said this after presenting contributions to Sepanggar parliamentary constituency haj pilgrims here on Sunday, when asked to comment on the 40 per cent Sabah rights claim raised by almost all assemblymen during their respective debates and calls for the matter to be resolved soon.
