Kota Kinabalu: Sabah will host a national-level gathering of Syariah judiciary leaders in August, aimed at strengthening the direction and efficiency of the Syariah legal system.
The Conference of Chief Syariah Judges and Legal and Judicial Symposium will bring together judicial officers, legal practitioners, and key stakeholders from across the country.
Datuk Mohd Amran Mat Zain, Director-General and Chief Syariah Judge of the Department of Syariah Judiciary Malaysia (JKSM), said the event reflects ongoing efforts to enhance the Syariah judiciary’s effectiveness.
He highlighted that the initiative builds on discussions and ideas shared in previous conferences, including one held in Sabah in 2005.
He said past contributions had significantly impacted and continue to shape improvements within the system.
Mohd Amran said after a courtesy call on the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sabah, Tun Musa Aman, at Istana Seri Kinabalu on Tuesday, where he also invited Musa to officiate the event.
The conference will focus on improving the adjudication processes in Syariah Courts to ensure cases are handled more efficiently and will aim to strengthen the role of Syariah Courts as a platform for resolution rather than dispute escalation.
Dialogue and discussion sessions will also be held to better communicate this approach to the public.
The conference is expected to attract 200 to 300 participants, with the possibility of international representation.
Mohd Amran expressed confidence that Musa’s leadership would support the ongoing efforts to advance the Syariah judiciary system.
He also emphasised the importance of improving court infrastructure and facilities for more effective service delivery, especially for those in need.
