Kota Kinabalu: A 30-year-old salesman who used two RM100 fake notes as genuine at a petrol station was jailed five years and fined RM1,000 in default one month’s jail.
Sessions Court Judge Zaini Fishir @ Fisal imposed the sentence on Jeremy Vun after ruling that the prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubt on Tuesday.
The court also ordered Vun to pay RM500 in compensation to the petrol station owner, in default of which he will serve one month’s jail.
Vun was found guilty of using counterfeit notes at the Shell fuel station in Taman Yakim, Jalan Tuaran, near here on April 15, 2024.
He was convicted under Section 489B of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to 20 years and a fine, upon conviction.
The prosecution called six witnesses during the trial, while Vun was the sole defence witness.
Deputy public prosecutor Nurul Shafeerah Mad Iskim conducted the prosecution, while Vun was unrepresented.
