KUNAK: A 17ft 4in male crocodile weighing about 800kg was shot dead by the Wildlife Department in Kunak after it was believed to have attacked a man at a river near Ladang Sri Kunak on Monday.
The incident occurred on April 19 at around 2pm, when the victim was collecting snails and suffered severe leg injuries in the attack.
Authorities were alerted the next day, prompting a monitoring operation.
A baited trap was set on April 25, leading to the crocodile’s capture on April 27, where it was subsequently shot to ensure public safety.
The public has been advised to stay cautious and avoid rivers known to be crocodile habitats to prevent similar incidents.
