PENAMPANG: A 25-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking during an Op Tapis operation in Putatan on April 21, said district police chief Supt Sammy Newton.
He said the raid was carried out in the afternoon at Jalan Pantai Berahi, where the suspect was detained by the district Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division.
Further inspection led police to seize six transparent plastic packets containing compressed dried plant material believed to be cannabis, weighing a total of 641.82 grammes and estimated to be worth RM1,890.
The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment of not less than 30 years and a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane upon conviction.
Sammy said police will not compromise with individuals involved in drug abuse and trafficking and urged the public to provide information to assist enforcement efforts.
