LABUAN: A trader at a public market was compounded for using an uncertified weighing scale during an enforcement operation by the Labuan Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN).
State Chief Enforcement Officer Amiluddin Malang said the scale had not been re-verified for trade use.
“Checks found the weighing instrument had expired on March 19, 2026 but was still being used in daily transaction,” he said.
He said the compound was issued for failing to comply with Section 14 of the Weights and Measures Act 1972 [Act 71], which requires all weighing and measuring instruments to be reverified before use.
If convicted, the offender may face a fine of up to RM10,000 or imprisonment of up to one year, or both.
Labuan KPDN said it will continue to intensify inspections, expanding operations beyond supermarkets and retail shops to include public markets.

Amiluddin said inspections at petrol stations in the area found operators complying with current regulations.
He urged the public to channel complaints or information through official KPDN channels for further action.
