TAWAU: A 40-year-old workshop supervisor suspected of stealing cash belonging to his colleague at a factory along Jalan Apas here was arrested on Monday.
District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the suspect was exposed after his actions were captured on closed-circuit television (CCTV).
“A report was lodged by the victim, a 33-year-old woman, after she discovered that a sum of money kept in her work desk drawer was missing,” he said.
Jasmin said the theft at a factory was discovered by the victim around 7:30 am, leading to the suspect’s arrest about two hours later.
Police believe the suspect, a workshop supervisor, entered the victim’s office at around 11.25 am on Sunday, when the premises were closed for the weekend.
The suspect is believed to have stolen money from the office during this time. CCTV footage helped identify him, leading to his quick arrest.
The supervisor is now under investigation for theft under Section 380 of the Penal Code. Background checks show that he has no prior criminal record.
Police urged the public to respect workplace trust and integrity, warning that criminal acts like theft can result in serious legal consequences, including imprisonment.
Authorities also encouraged anyone with relevant information to come forward to assist with investigations.
