Kota Kinabalu: The Coroner’s Court heard there was a possibility Zara Qairina Mahathir might have survived if the impact to her head had not occurred or could have been avoided.

Datuk Seri Dr Bhupinder Singh Jeswant Singh said the deceased could have survived had her head or neck not struck the edge of the drain.

He told the court he did not doubt that if she had fallen without hitting the back of her head, she would have survived, in response to a question by counsel Datuk Ram Singh.

Bhupinder also said an individual could climb onto the railing, hold onto a loose or swinging bar, and either sit on the railing or remain holding the bar.

He added that based on the position where the deceased was found and the injuries sustained, including wrist dislocation and a fracture of the radius consistent with a Colles’ fracture, it was his opinion that she had been standing and had fallen straight down.
