This incident is not isolated; witnesses said similar accidents have occurred more than five times at the same spot.
Local residents and shoppers are increasingly concerned and are urging authorities to take immediate action.
The night market, located near the Kota Marudu Fire and Rescue Station, operates daily from 3pm to 8pm, selling vegetables, seafood, poultry, snacks, drinks, and grilled chicken wings.
A vendor, Lin, 40s, said the drain is on a main walkway used by most shoppers, and victims often suffer injuries from concrete edges and the deep, dirty drain.
