GEORGE TOWN: Batu Uban assemblyman A Kumaresan has questioned the lack of action by authorities after a cockroach leg was allegedly found in food at a restaurant here.
In his
Facebook post, he said the incident occurred on March 14 at a premises in Lorong Pitt, involving his staff member and family who discovered the pest in their meal while dining.
Kumaresan claimed the complaint raised to the restaurant staff was ignored, with no apology given, prompting a formal report to be lodged with the Penang Island City Council and health authorities.
However, he said only a routine inspection was carried out, with no compound issued or closure order taken against the restaurant.
He questioned whether enforcement was applied fairly, noting that smaller operators are often shut down for similar offences, and stressed that food safety is a serious public health issue here.
