HONG Kong actor Louis Koo sparked concern among fans after being briefly targeted by a green laser pointer during a public appearance.
The 55-year-old, often seen wearing sunglasses in recent years, has previously shared that he suffers from an eye condition that makes him highly sensitive to light.
He said the condition includes two holes in the retina of his right eye and severe floaters that affect his vision.
The incident occurred as he arrived at the Hong Kong Film Directors’ Guild Awards, where a crowd had gathered to catch a glimpse of the actor.
In a video circulating online, a bright green beam is seen directed towards his face as he stepped out of a black vehicle, at one point appearing close to his eyes.
Despite the moment, he paused briefly to greet fans before heading into the venue. The laser appeared to track him for a short distance, prompting questions online over whether the act was deliberate.
A netizen who shared the clip said they saw someone “randomly shining a green laser pointer directly into Louis Koo’s eyes,” adding they would have confronted the individual if identified.
The footage drew swift reaction online, with many expressing concern and condemning the act as harmful.
Some speculated it could have involved an anti-fan, while others highlighted the dangers of laser pointers, especially given his existing eye condition.
Louis has previously said his floaters can appear as black lines drifting across his vision. He wears sunglasses to ease discomfort by reducing exposure to light.
Although he has planned surgery to address the retinal condition, it has yet to be scheduled as it would require rest and avoiding flights, which may affect his work commitments.
