Sabah also hit by durian blues: MaSDA
Duane says MaSDA aims to position Sabah as a durian tourism experience centre.
Kota Kinabalu: Sabah was also affected by the significantly lower prices of premium durians — Musang King (MK) and Black Thorn (BT) — from the peninsula, said the Sabah Durian and Tropical Fruit Planters Association (MaSDA).

Its president, Duane Evans, said that in November last year, when the durian season was just about to begin, resellers imported MK directly from the peninsula and distributed them at comparatively lower prices.

“At that time, MK production in Sabah was still at a low level and could not meet the needs of resellers.

“Normally, farmers can fetch good prices during the early harvest, but this time they had to compete with imported peninsula durians,” said Duane, commenting on the significant price drops in the peninsula recently due to oversupply.
