KIULU: More than 200 households in seven villages here are experiencing critical water issues.

The affected villages are Bungoliu, Tomis Baru, Kelawat, Simpangan Lama, Balabakan, Tomis Mangi Pangi and Bongol.

On Tuesday, Kiulu Assemblyman Datuk Joniston Bangkuai visited these villages to assess the current situation.

During the visit, he met with the Village Development and Security Committee Chairman and village chiefs as well as residents of the affected villages to hear their plights and discuss short-term and long-term solutions that need to be taken.

“I view with concern the ongoing water supply disruptions that have caused concern among the villagers.

“Among the temporary solutions proposed is to provide water tanks to store water in each affected village.

“As for the long-term solution, the proposal is to use water pumps from more effective water sources,” said Joniston.

The water disruption in Kiulu is due to a prolonged drought which has left the villagers’ water supply scarce or dry.

Currently, villagers have to rely on gravity water.

Joniston emphasised that the Community Development Leader Unit Office (UPPM) submitted a report on the situation to the Tuaran District Disaster Committee through the Kiulu District Office.

“Immediate action is needed to address this increasingly pressing water issue,” he stressed.

He also urged all Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK) to provide reports on proposed temporary solutions to overcome water problems in their respective villages.

“These measures are expected to provide the necessary assistance to the affected villages.

“We will continue to monitor the development of efforts to address this water issue and provide the updated information to the villagers as soon as possible,” said Joniston.
