Fined RM18,000 over bribe 
The offence under Section 26 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009 carries a jail term of up to seven years, of fine of up to RM50,000, or both, upon conviction.
TAWAU: A General Manager of the Area Farmers Organisation (PPK) in Semporna, was fined RM15,000 or five months’ jail for receiving RM8,110 bribe five years ago.

Ahmad Rudi Ab Rasid, 49, pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Jason Juga, to the alternative charge against him.

Ahmad got the bribe from one Mohamad Sadeed Mohamad Said by approving the voucher amounting RM8,110 to the Syarikat Pemborong Putramas belonging to Mohamad Sadeed at 6.30pm on Feb 26, 2019 at the People Housing Project in Bubul Ria.

The offence under Section 26 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009 carries a jail term of up to seven years, of fine of up to RM50,000, or both, upon conviction.

During mitigation, counsel Dominic Chew, who represented Ahmad, asked for a lower fine of between RM10,000 and RM12,000, saying that his client has four children and he needs to support medical expenses of his mother-in-law who is 75.

However, MACC Prosecuting Officer Norsham Saharom urged the court to hand down an appropriate sentence for public interest in as Ahmad was a government servant.
