Advice not to panic over fish phenomena

Lahad Datu: Citizens here are urged to not panic over fishes coming on to land near the Sahabat 16 jetty on Monday. District Fisheries Department Enforcement Officer Roslee Osman said the incident was a natural phenomenon.

It happened also 2013 in the district and is not related to any natural disasters as claimed by certain individuals.

"The phenomenon maybe because a school of fishes in the area are being hunted down by bigger predators.

"I hope the public do not panic as a video of the incident went viral on social media platforms," he said.

Meanwhile, a survey on social media platforms found a handful of individuals had associated the phenomenon with earthquakes and that it was a sign of an imminent disaster.

However, several others denied the claims and described the incident as a natural phenomenon where the particular species of fish often come on to land. - Eifa Rizan
