Report lodged over alleged seditious remarks

Kota Kinabalu: A police report has been lodged by Parti Warisan Sabah against a Sabah Umno Minister for allegedly making seditious remarks about the party. The report lodged by the party's Sectary-Gene Loretto S. Padua at the Karamunsing police station here, Wednesday, claimed that the minister made the remark during an event held at a hotel here and attended by about 300 people earlier this month.

"The Minister's remarks contained false statement, is slanderous and an insult to a certain ethnic group in Sabah," he said. He claimed that the statement also contained seditious remarks to raise fear and hatred towards the party and thus create worry and anger among its members and supporters, adding that this could escalate to tension among the community. Together with the police report was attached a CD containing audio details of the remarks purportedly made by the minister, together with the transcript of the audio. Loretto who was accompanied by Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) Treasurer Terrance Siambun and the party's Wira Chief Dato' Mohd Azis Jamman, among others, called for investigations against the minister under Section 499 and Section 505 of the Penal Code as well as Section 4 of the Sedition Act. - Sherell Jeffrey
