Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) drew strong public response during the recent Ramadan period, welcoming 30,172 diners to its “Resepi Nusantara – Asian Buffet 2026”.
Its Chief Executive Officer Datuk Rosmawati Lasuki said the turnout, recorded from Feb 26 to March 18, reflected encouraging community support.
She said beyond the numbers, the programme fostered togetherness, with families, friends and colleagues gathering to share meaningful moments during Ramadan.
Rosmawati expressed appreciation to SICC staff and guests, noting many patrons returned multiple times, often bringing different groups to share the experience.
“This strong response reinforces SICC’s role not just as a business events venue, but as a platform that brings people together through shared cultural and culinary experiences,” she said during SICC’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration in here on Wednesday.
Looking ahead, she said the BigSabah Sale 2026 will return from Oct 30 to Nov 1 at the centre, featuring more than 650 booths across sectors such as food, fashion, lifestyle and local heritage products.
“The event has evolved into a strategic marketplace, with curated spaces designed to enhance visitor experience and encourage interaction between businesses and consumers,” she said.
The event also serves as a gateway to the BIMP-EAGA growth corridor, offering opportunities for cross-border trade and regional market expansion.
In line with its growth plans, Rosmawati also announced the appointment of Veronica Ngagasegaran as Sales and Marketing Director.
She said the appointment would strengthen SICC’s market strategy, industry partnerships and regional positioning in the business events sector.
Rosmawati emphasised that SICC delivered 2,737 events over the past year, including 989 international events, reflecting Sabah’s growing appeal as a business events destination.
“The focus remains on positioning Sabah not just as a destination, but as a meaningful partner in regional growth through stronger connectivity and collaboration,” she said.
