LAHAD DATU: Lahad Datu district boasts a wide range of tourism attractions, particularly its unique natural environment, with strong potential to draw both domestic and international visitors.
Assistant District Officer T. Tzahrin Mohd Tahir said Danum Valley and the Tabin Wildlife Reserve are among the key destinations offering outstanding natural beauty and biodiversity in the district.
In addition, Lahad Datu is home to marine tourism attractions such as Blue Ring Reef, which promises an exciting experience, especially for visitors interested in scuba diving.
“Darvel Bay, which encompasses 56 islands, also offers a stunning combination of rainforest and marine experiences and has strong potential to attract both local and foreign tourists,” he said at the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign programme held at Lahad Datu Airport on Thursday.
The programme was held simultaneously at the country’s main entry points and strategic transport hubs.
The collaborative initiative between Tourism Malaysia, the Sabah Tourism Board, Malaysia Airlines and the Lahad Datu District Office aims to strengthen tourism promotion at both national and international levels.
In conjunction with the event, arriving passengers were welcomed with beaded garlands reflecting the area’s rich cultural heritage.
Visit Malaysia 2026 has also selected the Sun Bear as its official mascot, symbolising the nation’s commitment to nature conservation and biodiversity protection.
According to T. Tzahrin, safety and reputation remain top priorities to ensure the country’s tourism industry is not affected by any untoward incidents.
He said these efforts are in line with the goal of elevating Lahad Datu’s profile to stand alongside other popular tourism destinations in the State.
T. Tzahrin hoped that the expected increase in tourist arrivals during Visit Malaysia 2026 would help stimulate the local economy.
“We hope this will also generate spillover benefits for tourism industry players and small traders in this district,” he added.
