Kota Kinabalu: Up to 5,000 Indonesian children are receiving education at more than 200 Community Learning Centres (CLCs) and one Indonesian school in the State capital.
Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia in Kota Kinabalu, Noorman Effendi, said his government greatly appreciates the opportunity given to Indonesian children to receive formal education in a safe and conducive environment.
“We truly appreciate the opportunity for Indonesian children in Sabah to receive proper and comfortable formal education.
“The economic relationship between Indonesia and Malaysia, particularly Sabah, continues to grow through cross-border trade activities,” he said, after paying a courtesy call on Head of State, Tun Musa Aman and his consort Toh Puan Faridah Tussin, at Istana Seri Kinabalu.
The visit was to introduce himself as the new Consul General effective Sept 9, 2025.
Noorman hoped more Indonesian products would enter the Sabah market to further strengthen economic, educational and cultural ties between both regions in Borneo.
“Recently, an Indonesian delegation brought several Sabah entrepreneurs to the Trade Expo Indonesia to strengthen business networking between both sides.
“This collaboration is encouraging, and we hope it will continue to grow stronger in the future,” he said.
The meeting also resulted in the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Sabah entrepreneurs and several Indonesian companies.
