HO CHI MINH CITY: Fifteen students from Universiti Malaysia Sabah’s (UMS) Faculty of Engineering completed the Entrepreneurship Expedition III at Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU), here in Vietnam, marking another milestone for UMS in delivering internationally recognised student programmes.
The six-month student-led initiative was designed to strengthen leadership, teamwork, and communication skills, while nurturing creativity and cross-cultural understanding among participants.
Head of the Oil and Gas Engineering Programme Dr Nurfazliana Abdullah said the mobility programme created valuable opportunities and global exposure for students.
“The collaboration between TDTU and UMS provides students with insight into diverse thinking and cultural perspectives, as well as the chance to interact with international peers and gain awareness of the global job market,” she said.
Programme Director Nurul Nazirah Sawal said the expedition gave students the platform to apply classroom learning to real-world experiences.
“From six months of planning to on-ground execution in Ho Chi Minh, we learnt to manage the entire process from official communications and budgeting to activity coordination.
“It was an invaluable lesson in independence and leadership. Every team member played an important role, and our teamwork made this mission a success,” she said, adding that Vietnam’s progressive entrepreneurial culture had inspired them to bring back new ideas to UMS and Malaysia.
The highlight of the expedition was the Academic Exchange Workshop between UMS and TDTU, where the UMS delegation was welcomed by TDTU’s Faculty of Environment and Labour Safety Dean Dr Ho Ngo Anh Dao.
During the session, Head of the Mechanical Engineering Programme Dr Mohd Kamel Wan Ibrahim delivered a lecture titled “International Student Mobility in the Faculty of Engineering, UMS”, aimed at promoting UMS as a leading destination for credit-bearing mobility activities in Southeast Asia.
Throughout the programme, students participated in various hands-on activities, including visits to traditional markets, a photography competition, tourism product exploration, and cultural exchange sessions with TDTU students.
The Entrepreneurship Expedition III continues the legacy of previous expeditions held in Hatyai, Thailand, and Batam, Indonesia.
