Kota Kinabalu: A Sabah teacher, Hafizi Fazli bin Bakar, an Excellent Teacher (Guru Cemerlang) in Additional Mathematics from SMK Kemabong, Tenom, represented Malaysia at the 18th ASEF Classroom Network Conference (ClassNet18) held in Maribor, Slovenia, from Oct 6 to 10, 2025.
The prestigious conference, organised by the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF), brought together more than 100 educators from 35 Asian and European countries under the theme “Effective, Inclusive and Ethical AI in Education Design.”
The programme aims to strengthen collaboration between teachers from both regions and explore ways artificial intelligence (AI) can be applied in education ethically, inclusively, and effectively.
The initiative began in May 2025 with months of online learning, collaboration, and classroom project implementation involving teachers from Asia and Europe.
Hafizi and his team were among the finalists selected to present their innovative teaching project at the on-site conference in Slovenia.
Hafizi described the experience as a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas and best practices with international educators. He emphasised the importance of continuous learning and innovation among teachers as AI continues to transform education globally.
His achievement marks a proud moment for Sabah and Malaysia, highlighting the capability and commitment of local educators in advancing STEM education and integrating technology meaningfully into teaching and learning.
