Kota Kinabalu: Chef Alexander Carl Gutual II and Chef Maxwell Dousip from Shangri-La Tanjung Aru brought back the trophy at the Best Bah-ger in KK 2025 competition at Hyatt Centric, here, Tuesday.
Hyatt Centric General Manager Ruben Schrijver said he believes continuing the annual competition helps foster growth, sustainability and innovation in the culinary scene.
He said the event is focused not on the competition itself but on giving participants a unique opportunity to showcase their dishes, with nine outstanding standalone restaurants and hotel restaurants taking part this year.
“I can promise you that we will be back next year to steal the award back like we did last year,” he said while congratulating Alexander and Maxwell.
Chief Judge cum Sabah Chefs Association President Alvin Ting said he hopes Hyatt Centric will continue the best burger competition to promote ongoing growth and innovation in the community.
He said this is the third edition of the burger competition and each year the entries have been remarkably original, pushing the boundaries of what defines a burger.
“It’s a very, very difficult job for us, and it is truly a joy to be part of the journey you have taken by bringing your ideas here, showcasing your capabilities, techniques, skill level and execution,” he said.
Also participating were chefs from Hyatt Regency Kinabalu (second prize), Shoney’s Dining & Bar (third prize), Fatty Daddiez, Hearth, Enzo Teppanyaki, Hilton Kota Kinabalu, Le Meridien Kota Kinabalu and the host venue Hyatt Centric Kota Kinabalu, along with event sponsors Kitchen Shop and Nestlé.
