 Sabah Shooting Association holds shooting competition
A participant in a close-quarter battle scenario during the competition.
PENAMPANG: The Sabah Shooting Association (SSA) organised the Shooting Skills Test (UKM) Series 1/2024 at the SSA Target Field in Lok Kawi her for two days starting Saturday.

According to the Director of the Competition, Jeson Yong, a total of 116 participants consisting of enforcement agencies such as the Royal Malaysian Police, the Malaysian Prisons Department, the Malaysian Immigration Department, the Royal Malaysian Customs Department, the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, the Road Transport Department and the Royal Malaysian Navy participated in UKM this time.

“This UKM was also joined by private firearms license holders, security control companies, holders of licenses to own and operate (Carry and Use-C&U) firearms belonging to the SSA as well as the Police Bantuan Sutera Harbor agency and Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB),” he said after the prize presentation ceremony of the Shooting Skills Test (UKM) Series 1/2024 on Sunday. 

According to Jeson who is also the SSA Assistant Secretary, the UKM aims to test the skills of each participant in handling firearms in a safe condition despite having to shoot in various conditions, obstacles, and positions.

“Each participant will be tested with three Stages (Short - Medium - Long) and participants are required to fire at the target set precisely in fast movement to get the best score,” he added.

In this test, Calson Cassey Alipin, a shooter representing the Malaysian Immigration Department won the UKM Series 1/2024 open category followed by SSA shooters Jeson Yong and Clerence Wee representing the Royal Malaysian Navy in third place.

Meanwhile, for the open women’s category, first place was won by a participant representing the Royal Malaysian Police, Intan Terpilih Gonterat, second place was Dewifitriyani Jamain representing the Royal Malaysian Customs Department and Azlin Mohi, in third place.

A “Shoot-off” event was also held for the men’s and women’s categories, which were won by Jeson Yong and Intan Terpilih Gonterat.

The prize was presented by SSA Vice President, Steven Yong.
