NILAI: Customs officers seized 88kg of cocaine with an estimated street value of RM17.6 million in a raid at the KLIA cargo complex, Sepang, on Aug 1.

Customs director-general Zazuli Johan said a team from the department’s narcotics branch seized four boxes containing 995 glass bottles containing capsules of cocaine.

“The inspection also found that there were vehicle spare parts. The shipment was declared as supplements (but instead) there were glass bottles containing dangerous drugs and vehicle parts.

“This is the first time that a gang has used such a method, also using a fake name as the receiving company in the air waybill,” he said at a press conference here.

According to Zazuli, the drugs were flown in from the Netherlands and intended for the domestic market.

He said the investigation also found that the importer used false information in the import documentation, thus making it difficult to arrest the importer.

“However, investigations are still under way to track down the suspect, who is believed to be Malaysian, under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug trafficking,” he said.
