TAWAU: Sabah’s Immigration Department is seeking official confirmation from Indonesian authorities over the detention of 12 Malaysians in Sebatik, North Kalimantan.
Director Datuk Sh Sitti Saleha Yussof said no formal notice has been received, but efforts are ongoing through diplomatic and bilateral channels. The group allegedly entered Indonesia without using official routes to join a Fun Run.
Ten were detained at a hotel and two near the event site. Five had passports, while seven did not. Those with valid documents are expected to be deported soon, while the others remain under investigation.
JIM Sabah said it will assist with documentation and repatriation once confirmation is obtained, and reminded Malaysians to comply with immigration laws and use valid travel documents when crossing borders.
