LAHAD DATU: One person died while four others were injured and another escaped unharmed in a multi-vehicle road accident at Batu 8, Jalan Silam, on Saturday.
The Sabah Fire and Rescue Department said it received an emergency call at 4.55pm and deployed 11 personnel from the Lahad Datu station, arriving at the scene at 5.16pm.
The accident involved a lorry, an excavator from a Pan Borneo project site, a Perodua Alza, a Proton Saga FLX and a Yamaha LC motorcycle.
Initial findings indicated the lorry was travelling from Lahad Datu towards Tawau, while the Saga FLX, Alza and motorcycle were travelling in the opposite direction, with the excavator at a nearby construction site.
Firefighters, together with Health Ministry personnel and police, stabilised the victims and secured the scene before handing over the case to the authorities, with operations concluding at 6.29pm.
