Trio charged with keeping stolen items

Kota Kinabalu: Three men were charged in the Magistrate’s Court on Monday with two counts of keeping stolen properties.
Labourer Mohammad Raqib Abdul Karim, 40, cook Ali Rosli Baru, 38, and unemployed Mohd Firdaus Rahim, 34, who was brought before Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles, pleaded not guilty to committing the offences on Feb 19 at 7am in a house at Kg Kekeru, Kota Klias, Beaufort.

The trio, on the first count, were accused of keeping the stolen items - 24 pieces of foreign currencies, luggage and a watch box belonging to Tay Sui Jhung.
On the second count, the three allegedly kept a stolen Fortuner key and a stolen wallet belonging to Tiong Yeong Sheng.

Prosecuting officer Inspector Kelvan Elson Maik, in applying for a pre-trial case management (PTCM) date, proposed bail of RM5,000 in three sureties on each case.

Duty counsel Lim Ming Zoong requested a lower bail by stating that they were married and have children.
Lovely set June 6 for PTCM on the first count and released the accused each on a bail of RM3,000 in three sureties.

On their second count, the court fixed May 7 for PTCM and offered them bail at RM2,000 in three sureties each.
Meanwhile, Ali faced another charge of cheating by impersonation.
Ali claimed trial on the charge of pretending to be someone else, namely Abdullah Rahim, to cheat Amir Wahid Santoh by making Amir believe that he was Indonesian, which led Amir to think that he did not have a valid identification document in Malaysia.
Ali allegedly committed the offence on Feb 19 at 7am in a house at Kg Kekeru, Kota Klias, Beaufort.
The charge under 419 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to seven years or fine or both, on conviction.
The court fixed June 6 for PTCM and released Ali on a bail of RM3,000 in three sureties.
