Foreigner jailed over stolen properties 
The offence under Section 411 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to five years or fine or both, on conviction.
Kota Kinabalu: The Magistrate’s Court here on Monday sentenced a foreign man to 10 months jail for keeping stolen properties.

Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie meted out the sentence to Sadam Mahmud after he pleaded guilty to keeping stolen items comprising a handbag, container, pouch and silver bangle belonging to Tiong Yeong Sheng.

Sadam committed the offence on Feb 23 at 10am in a rented room of a house in Laya-Laya, Tuaran.

The offence under Section 411 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to five years or fine or both, on conviction.

The court was informed by the prosecution that the items were stolen from the complainant’s house at Manggatal which was broken into on Feb 17, the same year.

According to the prosecution, Sadam was earlier sentenced to four months’ jail by the Sessions Court for an immigration offence of illegal entry.

The court ordered Sadam to be referred to the Immigration Department after serving his sentence.

In another case, two men were charged with disposing of stolen properties.

Julian Said, 37, and Muhd Rafiq Saman, 34, claimed trial to disposing of a stolen safe belonging to one Chong Chon Shung by the roadside of Jalan Tengah KKIP, at 5.40pm, on March 13, this year.

The charge under Section 414 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to seven years or fine or both on conviction.

Stephanie set May 15 for pre-trial case management and released the accused each on a bail of RM2,000 in two sureties.

Meanwhile, a 30-year-old man, who fraudulently had RM300 deposited into his bank account last year, was fined RM100 or a day’s jail.

Devendren Aruldass of Selangor pleaded guilty to having the money belonging to  Marfilineta Michael, in which he failed to give a satisfactory explanation on how he obtained them at 2.07pm on Sept 2.

The offence under Section 22A (1) of the Minor Offences Ordinance provides a fine of up to RM100 or up to three months jail or both, on conviction.
