KUNAK: The district has a total of 1,203 household heads (KIR) registered in the e-Kasih system as of Feb 29 this year.

Kunak District Officer Awang Mohd Yusof said of the figure, 828 KIRs are categorised as poor while 375 KIRs are hardcore poor.

“We have made efforts to ensure that every application submitted is verified (inspection carried out on KIR documents/data) to be registered in the e-Kasih system.

“There are criteria and guidelines to determine the applicant’s eligibility,” he said in a briefing to a delegation of the Implementation Coordination Unit of the Prime Minister’s Department, Sabah Development Office (PPN) led by Director Samsul Dollah.

The PPN Sabah delegation was in the district for the “I Care For You: Ziarah Kasih Ramadan (ZiKiR) Programme” and hand over food baskets as well as cash aid to 50 KIRs, in conjunction with Ramadan.

Awang said since the country was hit by Covid-19, some of the KIRs were affected and lost their source of income.

The rise in the costs of living also causes pressure on the economy of these groups, he added.

“The Federal and State governments are working hand in hand to eradicate hardcore poverty by 2025 through various efforts.

“This shows that the Government is serious in dealing with the issue of poverty in this country. It is requested that all parties cooperate in providing appropriate assistance in the effort,” he said.

Kunak Community Development Leader (PPM) Hussin Mohd Rais, UPPM staff and Kunak Assemblyman’s representative Mohamad Latip Katik also joined the programme.

Awang thanked PPN and the secretariat led by Suriani Mohd Talip including People’s Welfare Section for their efforts to ensure the programme runs smoothly.
