30 Penampang schools get RM265,000: Ewon
Ewon hoped the donation could help alleviate the burden of the school and the Parents and Teachers Association (PIBG) by supporting the education of their respective students.
PENAMPANG: Thirty secondary, primary and special education schools under the management of the District Education Office received a donation of RM265,000 in early schooling assistance from Yayasan Bank Rakyat (YBR).

The donation was presented by Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, Datuk Ewon Benedick, at SK St Paul Kolopis, Tuesday.

Ewon hoped the donation could help alleviate the burden of the school and the Parents and Teachers Association (PIBG) by supporting the education of their respective students.

"This is my commitment to extend the services of the Ministry, agencies and organisations under my responsibility.

“The services must reach people all over the country, and we began in Kota Belud on Monday. We continued in Penampang yesterday,” he said after the ceremony.

Ewon said the same donation was also provided to schools in the district last year.

“I hope that no school is left behind. We have also allocated additional funds to schools with special education students so that both the students and teachers work together for their benefits,” he added.

He said apart from the 10 agencies under his Ministry, YBR and Universiti Keusahawanan Koperasi Malaysia (UKKM) are also under the Ministry through the Malaysian Cooperative Institute (IKMa).

“As the minister in charge of this university, I encourage principals, presidents of PIBG and teachers who wish to continue their master’s or PhD studies in entrepreneurship or cooperative administration to do so at UKKM,” he said.

The school principals and headmasters who received the donation expressed their gratitude to Ewon and YBR for their concern for the needs of students.

The principal of SM St. Michael Penampang, Jennifer Asing, said the donations proved Ewon’s genuine concern for the needs of students and schools.

“We will use this donation to make various activities of the PIBG successful, including academic excellence programmes, co-curriculum and nurturing students’ personalities,” she said.

Meanwhile, SK Babagon Headmaster Lawrence George said the assistance would be used to implement planned programmes for this year, including aiding  students who require expenses for activities outside of school.

“In addition, we will also utilise this donation to construct facilities within the school area for the benefit of students and teachers,” he said.

Also present were Kapayan Assemblywoman Jannie Lasimbang, YBR Chairman Datuk Philip Lasimbang, YBR General Manager Syaiful Rizal Abdul Ghani, Deputy Education Officer of the Pupil Development Sector, representing Penampang District Education Officer Robert John, as well as principals and headmasters.
