Kota Kinabalu: An enforcement officer has been arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for allegedly accepting a monthly bribe of RM500 from a licensed money changer company in return for protecting the company’s business.

The man, in his 40s, had allegedly received a total of RM4,000 from an individual between 2020 and 2021. Each transaction involved RM500.

Sabah MACC Director Datuk S Karunanithy, when contacted, confirmed the arrest of the suspect.

“The suspect was arrested at approximately 9am Wednesday at the Sabah MACC office while giving his statement.

“The case is being investigated under section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009,” he said, adding the man is expected to be charged at the Special Corruption Court here today (Thursday).
