State divers return with eight medals

Kota Kinabalu: The State diving team captured one gold, one silver and six bronzes at the MAS/NSC/Milo Sportexcel Age Group Junior Diving Circuit Leg 1 2024 held at the National Aquatic Centre, Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur last weekend.
The gold was won by Dea Butiza Haidie in the girls 3m Springboard Group C event and silver came from Onell Lee in the boys 3m Springboard Group C event while the bronze medals were delivered by Mohd Ayron Shadwaz Shaem, who won three in the boys 1m Springboard, 3m Springboard and 5m Platform Group B, Lev Mackenzie Leopold in the boys 3m Springboard Group C, Tiana Jazmine Mohd Radzli in the girls 1m Springboard Group C and the pairing of Onell Lee and Adrian Norman Ligadu Abdullah in the boys synchronised platform.

Sabah was represented by an eight-member team led by team manager Effarizah Abd Japar with Nurfazriyanti Jali and Rossharisham Roslan as coaches.
The divers were Dea Butiza Haidie, Hanna Marie Suiking, Onell Lee, Tiana Jazmine Mohd Radzli, Adrian Norman Ligadu Abdullah, Mary Kayla Clarence Ongkudon, Mohd Ayron Shadwaz Shaem and Lev Mackenzie Leopold.
Sabah Aquatic Sports Association (Sasa) president Daniel Lee, who congratulated the team, praised the divers on their hard work for the achievement.
“It’s great to see a new crop of divers who are making waves in the pool and make the State proud.

“The team and divers have been working hard and I believe they will continue the good work and get to represent the country one day,” he said.
Daniel also thanked the State Youth and Sport Ministry (KBS Sabah) and Sabah Sport Council for their continued support to the diving and swimming community.
